Global Impact: For many years, we have been importing frozen prawns with an excessive amount of water as unnecessary glaze. By adopting our open-source concept, millions of liters of water could be saved. All these waters are brought into the UK just to be drained down the sink as wastage. On the other hand, we are spending billions of taxpayers’ money to help people in developing countries to gain access to fresh water (SDG 06). This practice contributes to the global water crisis.
UK Financial Impact: All the wasted, drained water goes to treatment plants, where it gets treated and returned to our taps. This practice costs around £3.08 per ton, according to United Utilities. This has been costing the UK public millions of pounds and will continue to cost more and more. These are just the tangible losses. Unless we start raising awareness about our new concept today, things will NOT change.
UK Environment/Climate change Impact: This is the major concern of Green Giggles and Cupid trading limited. If CUPID new concept can be made aware to the market, 65% CO2 emission CAN be stopped! Please note, we chose this item since it has been the most water consuming specification for years. If it is successfully implemented, the model can be applied on other heavily ice glazed products. UK’s market insight shows that till the end of January 2019, 40000tonnes of shrimps and prawns were imported to UK and 60% of them are warm water prawns from Asia. Our concept could potentially be applied on ALL of them.
How CUPID’s Concept work: It is simple. To freeze prawns, a minimum of glaze (water containing the prawn) is needed to maintain the moisture of the products and prevent dehydration. With over 16 years of experiences and research,we had been told that the optimum glaze level is 15-20%. Devotedly, Glaze volume also contributes to the prices of the product.Therefore,importers sometimes increase glaze volume for cost reduction. However,the environment impact of their practices is deliberately neglected. Our sourcing partner concept mastermind CUPID TRADING has experimented with their European customers and has been successful.The water saving concept is accepted by the customers since the product net weight is well-maintained. Our Concept can eliminate the use of high glaze without compromising the product quality nor variety. The cost difference between present concept and our concept is NEGLIGIBLE,only 0.20 USD/kg ( 10 -12 pence per 700g unit).
Frozen seafood finished goods start with selection of raw products and the choice of glazing size. We choose the same raw products and add only the protecting glaze before packing. For example, a common product specification in the UK market is “1kg gross, 700g net”. This product consists of 30% glaze.The Labeling Law in place as of December 2014 requires that “net weight without glaze”MUST be declared. Our CONCEPT is made adhering to the legal regulations.
